FROM UNIT 6 TO UNIT 9


Unit 6

1. Grammar and Functions

-Obligations and permission in the present (p 45): PERMISSION: Be (IS /ARE /AM) ALLOWED TO + INFINITIVE – CAN + INFINITIVE) – (IS /ARE / AM) NOT ALLOWED TO+ INFINITIVE and CAN’T+ INFINITIVE. OBLIGATION: use HAVE TO INFINITIVE to talk about things that are necessary to do. Use DON’T HAVE TO INFINITIVE To talk about things that are not necessary to do

- Obligations in the past (47): PERMISSION Be (WAS / WERE) ALLOWED TO + INFINITIVE – COULD + INFINITIVE). OBLIGATION: use HAD TO INFINITIVE to talk about things that were necessary to do. Use DIDN’T HAVE TO INFINITIVE to talk about things that were not necessary to do


2. Vocabulary

Rules and behaviour (p 44 - 46):  get on with, have an argument, go wrong, do badly at school, get into trouble, take any notice, behave, punish, guide, control bring up

Domestic tasks (47):

MAKE: breakfast, make phone calls, make beds, the most mess

DO: the cooking / the housework / the hoovering / the washing up / the ironing

3. Society and the law (48): join the army, go to prison, steal, vote, commit a crime / a murder, be banned, take a driving test, be illegal, death penalty

4. Writing

Write about rules at home and at school

Write an invitation. Active study: cooking at school

Unit 7

5. Grammar and Functions

-Future arrangements (53): use present continuous to describe definite arrangements in the future. Time expressions: this evening / year, at the weekend, after lunch, next Friday / week, in the next few days /years

1-WILL (to show that we thing something is sure to happen) WON´T (to show that we thing something is sure not to happen).WILL + DEFINITELY or PROBABLY (to show how sure we feel: DEFINITELY (= very sure) / PROBABLY (= quite sure). NOTE: People will definitely travel abroad / People definitely won´t travel abroad     2-May; Might (54) to show that we think something is possible in the future

3- Future forms of CAN ( will be able to infinitive) and HAVE TO (will have to)

6. Vocabulary

Holidays (p 52):  go shopping, sunbathe, go sightseeing, look at scenery, eat                           - FLYING (54): check in desk, passport control, security, departures board, destination, arrivals gate, luggage, boarding card, customs,

- DESCRIBING HOLIDAYS (56): accommodation, tour operator, travel agent, customer, and holidaymaker. ACTIONS: get sunburnt, get food poisoning, have fun, complain, deal with, blame.

7. Writing

Write a personal letter.

Active study: A trip to Paris. A postcard and a letter

Unit 9

8. Grammar and Functions

·                        -Defining relative clauses (69): who + people / which + things and animals / that .

- Conditional type 0: If present simple, present simple

- First conditional (70) (Possible situation) If simple present, simple future (to describe a result)

- Future time clauses: use THE PRESENT TENSE after time words like WHEN / AFTER / BEFORE. Example: After school finishes, people will be able to use the mobile phones

9. Vocabulary

Machines and how they work (p 68):  MP3 player, answering machine, games console, alarm clock, hairdryer, digital camera, mobile phone
